The Meaning Of A Solitary Rose
Because a single rose is able to symbolize all manifestations of love, it is the flower of choice for most.
A single rose says it so much better!
This non-verbal language of a solitary rose translates into any language, and transcends all barriers. It’s also very useful for guys who often can’t find the right words to convey their love. 🙂
Because…
- A single rose can say “I Love You.”
- A solitary rose can say “I’m Jealous.”
- A single rose can say “I’m Sorry.”
- One rose can say “It’s Over.”
- A single rose can say “Thank You.”
- A solitary rose can say “We’re Friends Forever.”
- One rose can say “You Are Beautiful.”
- A solitary rose can say “You are Pure.”
- A single rose can say “You Bring Joy to My Life.”
… and much more!

But what do the different colors of a single rose mean?
- Most people already know that a single red rose simply means “Love”.
- One solitary yellow rose generally means dying love or platonic love. But in some countries it can also symbolize jealousy and infidelity, so watch out!
- Get a blue rose to tell someone he/she is a mystery to you (“mysterious”).
- A green rose conveys calm.
- Guys, if you screw up, send a single white rose – it says “sorry”! But it can also mean innocence, purity, secrecy, friendship, reverence and humility.
- If you can get your hands on one black rose*, it will tell the recipient that you have a slavish devotion for him/her (as a true black fresh rose is impossible to produce). But, be careful, as some people also use a black rose to send a message that a relationship is over!
- A solitary burgundy rose tells the other party you find them very beautiful.
- If you’d like to show your passion for your lover, get a single orange rose.
- One yellow rose with red tips symbolizes friendship, or falling in love.
- To show admiration or sympathy, give a light pink rose.
- When you send someone a purple rose, it conveys protection (paternal/maternal love).
- A solitary pink rose conveys grace and gentle feelings of love.
- If you wish to thank someone, you can send one dark pink rose, as it symbolizes gratitude.
Tip: Always attach a card to your single rose, explaining the meaning behind it – just to be on the safe side. 😉
*Often, fresh-cut roses may not be available in all the colors (particularly, black), so a good idea is to then give a single preserved rose or solitary sprayed novelty rose instead.
